Orofacial pain as a broad terminology may occur due to disease of orofacial structures, generalized musculoskeletal or rheumatic disease, peripheral or CNS or psychological abnormality or may be a referred pain from cervical muscles or intracranial pathology.
All these conditions represent a challenge to the clinician. Different individuals respond differently to the identical noxious stimulus.
