Guided bone regeneration (GBR) was introduced as a therapeutic modality aiming to achieve bone regeneration, via the use of barrier membranes (Dahlin et al. 1988).
GBR with simultaneous implant placement is recommended only if the implant could be placed in an optimal three dimensional position with satisfactory primary stability from the existing natural bone (Chen et al. 2009).
